What is a Cirtizen Developer?

Spheeres is increasingly focusing on 'citizen developers': business professionals with little IT knowledge who develop software themselves. Spheeres, the Dutch low-code and no-code software provider is working on a proposition that enables end customers to innovate rapidly.

But what is a Citizen Developer?

A citizen developer is an employee or someone who creates application capabilities for consumption by themselves or others, using tools that are not actively forbidden by IT or business units.

A citizen developer is a persona, not a title or targeted role. They report to a business unit or function other than IT, if they work for a company. You can also create software and applications for your usage.

All citizen developers are business technologists. However, all business technologists are not necessarily citizen developers. Citizen developers must not be designated for proficiency or time allocation, but they must be legal employees of an organization.

If they create software and applications for the company.

Otherwise, you can also start creating your software and applications for your use or to share with friends and family.

So, a Citizen Developer is someone with a feel for IT or who's eager to learn and wants to start making and creating their applications, software, and/or business solutions.

Citizen Developer by Spheeres is an application development platform from the Netherlands, a provider of a successful no-code & low-code application development platform.

Citizen developers

This new type of developer, often working in a business department rather than an IT department, can rapidly drive innovation within an organization. Organizations are under pressure to have new business solutions available at a high pace, but their IT departments cannot always meet that demand. Codeless platforms, such as Citizen Developer by Spheeres, can alleviate the pressure on IT departments by enabling 'citizen developers' to develop applications and solutions themselves.
